11/06/2017 - Familiarisation ex with the new Coastguard AW189

Today the team had a familiarisation exercise with the new Coastguard Augusta Westland 189 helicopter which will soon be taking over from the S92 at Prestwick.

A great morning was had going over safety protocols and getting familiar with the new aircraft.

After this the team headed around to the Machrie moor area to continue on with the search for missing local man, John Smith.

On arrival back at our team base at approximately 1645, the team were called out to assist three male walkers who had become disorientated in the low cloud descending Goatfell.

The teams Argo Cat was deployed and the three male walkers were located by team members just above the deer fence.

Although cold and wet, all three were unharmed and taken back to the team base for a warm cup of tea.
