First exercise of 2014 - Beinn Bharrain ridge

January 5, 2014

With severe gales forecast for this afternoon, it was decided to postpone the original plan of a joint exercise with our local RNLI and head for the Beinn Bharrain ridge in Pirnmill.

The team split into two groups and tackled the ridge from opposite ends.

Beinn Bharrain is a wonderful ridge with some great scrambly sections for those who fancy the challenge.

The going is steep and relentless but is a fairly short round.

After a few hours the weather started to deteriorate and standing upright was becoming a challenge in itself.

Team members who had chosen to tackle the scrambly section first had made it to the summit but the other team made a decision to return the same way due to the conditions.

Search dog Ruby was put to work on the return journey and quickly she located a few team members who had hidden as casualties.

A very wet and windy start to 2014 but nice to get out as a team.
