First exercise of our winter training program -SAR Techniques

November 3, 2013

The team set off yesterday on our first winter exercise of the season.

This months training involved SAR techniques in the Lochranza/ Catacol area.

We looked at using our new Satmap systems to aid in a line search and also made use of our "Airwaves" when normal radio comms were out of range.

After a successful line search the first casualty was located safe and well but news of a second casualty became clear and the race was on to find them and get them to safety.

We were given a grid reference of where the second person may be and also had evidence of a sighting by another passing group in the area.

The Argo was unable to assist with carrying gear so the team set off on foot to the given grid reference.

After a fair distance the final casualty was reached and after assessing for injuries, she was evacuated off the hill by stretcher.

A successful day going over SAR techniques and utilising team equipment.
